| From the A1: Leave the AI(M) at Junction 8 (Hitchin, Luton, Stevenage North). Head for Hitchin. After about 3 miles, through the outskirts of Hitchin, you will come to a large roundabout. Take the 3rd exit, along A602, to the next roundabout. Take the second exit to A505, straight over and keep to the left hand lane until you reach traffic lights. Turn left into Oughton Head Way. If you are on foot, take the first left up Gaping Lane, if you are in a vehicle, take the second left up Bedford Street. Take care at the fairly tight left bend and right turn into Gaping lane. Here you will meet the pedestrians who walked up the first stretch of Gaping Lane. At the top of Gaping Lane you will cross Lucas Lane into the grounds of Lucas Lane Sports Club's dedicated car park. We are in the Function Room on the first floor of the Pavilion, accessed by stairs or lift. |
| From the M1: Leave the M1 at Junction 10 (Luton airport). Go straight over a string of about seven roundabouts, following the signs for the A505 Hitchin. At the last one, turn right, still following the signs A505 Hitchin, eventually leaving Luton. Nine miles to Hitchin. Quarter mile from the outskirts, go straight over "blob" roundabout, on to a large roundabout. Take the first exit to A505, left and keep to the left hand lane until you reach traffic lights. Turn left into Oughton Head Way. If you are on foot, take the first left up Gaping Lane, if you are in a vehicle, take the second left up Bedford Street. | From the A505 Baldock/Letchworth : Stay on the A505 through Baldock and Letchworth and into Hitchin. At first set of traffic lights go straight over, straight over roundabout, under the railway bridge to a roundabout, by B&M store. Fork right at this roundabout, into Nightingale Road, still A505. Go straight over two "blob" roundabouts and, at the third take the second exit into Fishponds Road, with the Victoria pub to your right. Playing fields and swimming pool to your left until you reach a proper roundabout with Hitchin Football Club on your right. Take first exit, left on to Bedford Road. You should now be passing open park/play area to your left. At traffic lights bear left, moving to the right hand lane. Over pedestrian crossing, bear right, and stay in the right hand lane. At the roundabout take the third exit back into the A505, and keep to the left hand lane until you reach traffic lights. Turn left into Oughton Head Way. If you are on foot, take the first left up Gaping Lane, if you are in a vehicle, take the second left up Bedford Street. Take care at the fairly tight left bend and right turn into Gaping lane. | From the A600 Bedford : Stay on the A600 past Henlow Camp airfield, straight over Lower Stondon roundabout and on to Hitchin. Go Straight over one "blob roundabout, on to and straight over second "blob" roundabout, onto and straight over roundabout at Hitchin Football Club. You should now be passing open park/play area to your left. At traffic lights bear left, moving to the right hand lane. Over pedestrian crossing, bear right, moving to the left hand lane. At the roundabout take the third exit back into the A505, and keep to the left hand lane until you reach traffic lights. Turn left into Oughton Head Way. If you are on foot, take the first left up Gaping Lane, if you are in a vehicle, take the second left up Bedford Street. Take care at the fairly tight left bend and right turn into Gaping lane. | By rail : Hitchin
is on the main line north out of King's Cross, London. Walking to the club
from the station will take about 30 minutes.
Walk down the station drive, turning right onto Walsworth Road, over pedestrian crossing and right towards the roundabout. Keep on the path, bearing left at the roundabout into Nightingale Road, round the B&M store. Fork right at this roundabout, into Nightingale Road, still A505. Go straight over two "blob" roundabouts and, at the third take the second exit into Fishponds Road, with the Victoria pub to your right. Playing fields and swimming pool to your left until you reach a proper roundabout with Hitchin Football Club on your right. Here you have two choices, a main road route or a footpath route. For the main road route turn left on to Bedford Road. You should now be passing open park/play area to your left. Before the traffic lights cross to the other side of Bedford Road and turn right into Oughton Head Way. Take the first left up Gaping Lane, not for vehicles, meeting the vehicular route at the junction of Bedford Street. At the top of Gaping Lane you will cross Lucas Lane into the grounds of Lucas Lane Sports Club's dedicated car park. We are in the Function Room on the first floor of the Pavilion, accessed by stairs or lift. For the foot path route, straight across the roundabout from Fishponds Road you will see Maxwell's Path. Walk the full extent of this pathway and cross Oughton Head Lane into Lucas Lane. Stay on Lucas Lane until you get to the junction with Gaping Lane, where you will see the entrance to the Lucas Lane Sports Club on your right. We are in the Function Room on the first floor of the Pavilion, accessed by stairs or lift.
Your Sat-Nav may well Take you straight on rather than left up Bedford Street. This is fine, maybe even advantageous if you are driving a large vehicle, avoids the very sharp bends. Follow Oughtonhead Way round the green and turn left into Lavender Way at the foot of Victoria Road. At the junction with Lucas Lane turn left. The road is unmade with some potholes, but it is straight. At the junction with Gaping Lane turn right into the Sorts Club.
